P. S. Krøyer – an international perspective
(Until 10 April 2012)
Highlighted at the Hirschsprung Collection is the largest international retrospective of works by one of Denmark’s most celebrated proponents of Naturalism, Norwegian-born artist P.S. Krøyer (1851-1909).

Europe Meets the World
(7 January – 3 June 2012)
The National Museum of Denmark highlights an exhibition on European history, entitled Europe Meets the World, to coincide with the Danish presidency of the European Union.

The Royal Jubilee
(28 January – 1 July 2012)
This year Denmark celebrates the 40th Royal Jubilee of HM Queen Margrethe II with a retrospective of her own paintings at the ARKEN Museum of Modern Art  and an exhibition of the Queen’s royal gala dresses at the Amalienborg Museum (12 January - 26 August).

Copenhagen Fashion Festival(1 - 5 February 2012)
The winter/spring edition of the Copenhagen Fashion Festival, Scandinavia’s largest, hosts a wide range of events open to the public. A decade of Danish fashion is also on show at the Danish Design Center


WonderCool Festival

FROST Festival
This year the city’s winter rock music event, the FROST Festival, is hosted in the grand palm houses of the Botanical Gardens. Events are listed on the WonderCool website calendar.

Copenhagen Art Festival

This year’s winter edition of the city’s leading twice-yearly international Copenhagen Art Festival showcases art that reflects on community values.


Copenhagen Cooking
(1 - 29 February 2012)
The nation’s leading culinary festival, Copenhagen Cooking, holds its winter edition with Nordic food offerings and the nation’s first Liquorice Festival.

Winter Jazz
(3 - 12 February 2012)
The nationwide Winter Jazz festival features a wide range of events at jazz clubs and concert venues in Copenhagen.
 
Hammershøi & Europe
(4 February – 20 May 2012)
A major exhibition of works at the Danish National Gallery by Denmark’s arguably most internationally famed pictorial artist, Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864-1916), adopts a European perspective.

The coolest time of year

Hot swinging jazz, Nordic cooking, spring fashion… No sooner is Copenhagen’s spectacular and festive Christmas season over before the city hosts some of Scandinavia’s leading winter festivals.

Featured in February are a number of festivals under the WonderCool label, including the winter edition of Denmark’s top culinary festival, Copenhagen Cooking. This year you can sample seafood morsels, such as lumpfish roe, local oysters, shellfish and mussels, at the city’s new covered food halls, Torvehallerne, where in February a new Stone Age food restaurant will also open. And visitors to the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde will enjoy a chance to try New Nordic Viking cuisine at the museum’s restaurant. Other major festivals include the winter/spring edition of the Copenhagen Fashion Festival, which features an exhibition at the Danish Design Centre of highlights from the last decade of Danish fashion. And there is more design to be experienced at Designmuseum Danmark where the spotlight is turned on the mid-century creations of legendary Danish furniture designer Finn Juhl whose centennial is celebrated nationwide this year. And the Winter Jazz festival is featured at the city’s many jazz clubs and designer concert venues.

The Royal Jubilee
